Ford Recalls 4.5 Million Vehicles

Ford has issued the largest recall in history with a total of 4.5 million vehicles . This is due to a faulty switch which may cause the vehicle to catch on fire. After a long battle with the U.S. government in regard to this matter, the decision was made to recall all the vehicles equipped with the faulty switch. The main problem comes from a switch made by Texas Instruments which is used to disengage the cruise control by tapping on the brakes. The faulty switch can cause leaks of hydraulic fluid, overheat, smoke and burn. The risk of causing fire is there even when the ignition is turned off or unattended.

Several deaths have been reported in the United States along with reports of 550 fires as well as more than a thousand complaints from vehicles owners. Eight separate recalls have been made over the span of 10 years in regards to this problem which now adds up to 14.1 million vehicles.

The safety recall is expected to begin around Oct. 26. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673 or NTHSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit http://www.safercar.gov.

Tuesday’s recall includes the following Ford models: 1995-2003 Windstars, 2000-2003 Excursion diesels, 1993-1997 and 1999-2003 F-Super Duty diesels, 1992-2003 Econolines, 1995-2002 Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers, 1995-1997 and 2001-2003 Rangers and 1994 F35 motorhomes.
