Ultima Beats Top Gear Lap Record
Ultima, a small car company from the UK has beaten every car on the Power Board on Top Gear. For those of you who are not familiar with the Power Board, it is a lap record of cars which are driven around by The Stig on the most popular motoring TV show, Top Gear. To be eligible to be on the power board each car must be a road legal production car and drive around the Top Gear test track.
Anyway the company had made requests to challenge the time set by other cars on the show as well the disqualified record holder the Ferrari FXX which was driven by non other than Michael Schumacher during the previous season. Schumacher set a record time of 1:10.9. The FXX was disqualified for using slick tyres.
Ultima set out to beat the FXX dispite the fact that they were not given the opportunity to do it on the show and indeed they did beat the time set by the Ferrari. However what is unclear is whether the car is road legal? is it using slick tyres ? these are some of the questions which we cannot answer. But what is clear from the video is the driver having to work so hard to control the car in comparison with the Ferrari. I guess that what makes an expensive car really expensive.
