BMW M5 CSL

It is funny how BMW is working these days. With the M3 CSL development cancelled, and the Z4-M called off, BMW is now looking at a big fat chunky M5 CSL. It seems that the board of director at the M division are loving bigger chunkier cars, eg. the X5-M and the X6-M.

Now, the German boys are going to build a BMW M5 CSL. Yes you heard it, the M5 CSL.

M5 CSL 1

The M5 CSL will be equipped with a modified V-10 powerplant as it will be stroked to 5.5-liters and will be fitted with a carbon fiber intake, and a secondary oil cooler. 600-bhp perhaps? A fortified version of the seven-speed dual-clutch Getrag gearbox that is fitted to the current M3 will be mated with the M5 CSL. The car will also be lighter, thanks to its carbon fiber roof, a set of lightweight carbon-fiber seats up front, and the removal of the rear seats. That sums up to a hefty 50kg.

But what about the F10 M5 then? Is this BMW shooting themselves on the foot?
