Autosport F1 just did an interview with Mike Gascoyne, CTO of the 1Malaysia Lotus F1 project and Mike, as usual, gave very direct and clear answers, no beating around the bush stuff. I’m really glad that Tony Fernandes has very shrewdly opted to work with Mike and his Litespeed team when the Malaysian F1 team project was first mooted.
I had the privilege of interviewing Mike during a Bridgestone-organized Press Conference during last year’s German GP (part of my Bridgestone e-Reporter experience) and he really does come across as a no-nonsense, straightforward, brilliant engineer. Far more than that, he is very articulate in giving easy-to-understand and well-explained answers when questioned as well.
He has got a great track record of building up teams. He was there in Toyota when the team was starting to pick up and the same goes for the Spyker/Force India team as well. But he does have a habit of not getting well with his bosses after a while leaving the team just as it enters into ascendancy, especially Asian teams (think Toyota/Japanese, Force India/Indian). Hope it’s third time lucky this time and trust that Tony and the Malaysian contingent to be smart enough to leave the actual team running to Mike, at least for now.

Always thought he was bullocks….
Hahaha, didnt think much of him until i got the chance to talk to him. Think you need quite a bit of charisma to have a front-line job in F1
