Button Joins McLaren, Disappoints Brawn
McLaren Mercedes signed Jenson Button as a replacement to Heiki Kovalainen, this will provide the Woking team a full English line-up for the 2010 season. With this said, rumors of Kimi Raikkonen piloting the next McLaren Formula 1 car has been diminished.
This move by McLaren is obvious as the team has been eyeing button ever since the start of his career.
Button has his up and downs through this rough career, having won the driver’s championship and the constructor’s championship for Brawn GP, many would have thought that he would stay with Brawn. This is what the Englishman said:
“It’s always a difficult decision to leave a team when you’ve been there for so long, but life is all about challenges, most important of all, it’s about challenging yourself. So, although I won the championship with Brawn GP last year, and I’ll never forget that, I was always adamant that I wanted to continue to set myself fresh challenges. That’s why I’ve decided to join Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, you can’t help but be affected by this team’s phenomenal history. I’ve followed the McLaren team ever since I was a small boy, and it feels unbelievable to finally be a part of it.”
Certainly a boy chasing his dreams, but the Brawn team is saying otherwise, most hoped that Button would continue his career with the existing team, but with his shocking decision, Nick Fry has admitted that the team is disappointed with Button’s decision.
Nick said, “We offered loyalty which we hoped, perhaps naively, he would return.”
