A chap from New Zealand used his 1970 MGB-GT engine and with a little physics know-how, transformed it into a jet engine to, as he said, “burn up fuel very very quickly”.

A jet engine in its simplest form consists of a combuster where fuel is burnt to heat air, a turbine extracting energy from the heated air and a compressor which is turned by the turbine to provide air to the combuster. Using an LPG (liquid petroleum gas) tank to supercool a basin of water, he then dumps in the beer into the basin and turns on his contraption. 5 minutes, 100000 RPM and a racket of 125 dBA later, his beer is chilled to a good 2 degrees Celsius.

Now, if only we could as easily cool our cars that way…

We’ve managed to unearth some not-so top secret designs for a spotlight you can mount onto your car that’s not only bright enough to drive angry vengeful cattle off the road, but it’d cause enough of a racket that they’d be milking out curdled dairy products. And even better news, it can be built with things you’d find in a normal gardening shed!

All you’d need is:

CHAINSAW SPOTLIGHT INGREDIENTS

1 chainsaw
1 treadmill motor (DC permanent magnet motor)
1 one-piece 12 volt car headlight
Odds and ends tubings, wires and switches
Bicycle sprockets
Bicycle chains
Motorcycle voltage regulator
Scrap wood
Screws

And follow these 7 easy steps to make your life (and the herd of cattle) easier:

01. Remove sprockets from bicycle and line up for the best fit

02. Weld the sprockets

03. Configure the engine and place them according to size and design

04. Add some wooden framing for a more pleasing look

05. Insert the bicycle chain and make the final adjustments

06. Finally, mount the light and regulator

And there you have it. A fully functional spotlight you can mount! Which, if done properly, would look something along the lines of this:

The new parts and modifications will hopefully allow the little pony to graduate to be a little colt perhaps? Our target? Shave off 5 seconds.

The time attack will be taxing on precision, setup and of course, the weather condition.

I’ve given it a gearbox transplant (5-Speed Getrag Manual) along with a brand new air intake. The gearbox is 40kg lighter than the older box (that’s the equivalent of one Justin Bieber) and to top things off, I’ve slapped brand new sticky Continental tires on it.

5 seconds is an Everest to climb, so we’re just going to have to see whether a new gearbox, air intake and tires will be enough to get us to the peak.

That said, how does it feel to see your fellow country man abusing it? Being impatient, fidgety, and rude to other road users, this is very much common now, on Malaysian roads at least.

I took the liberty of capturing some of these emergency lane abusers (North South Highway, Southbound). It was on the eve of the 2010 Chinese New Year (13th February 2010), yes, a day before Valentines, I was on my way to Malacca and traffic was pretty much stop and go, but some road user thinks that they have the right to use the emergency lane, being in a time constricted emergency perhaps?

“The left lane otherwise known as the road shoulder, is created for emergencies. E.g. event of an emergency or breakdown, for emergency vehicles such as Patrol Cars and Ambulance.”

Needless to say more, this sort of attitude pisses off many and it seems that the penalty that is being imposed by the authority isn’t harsh enough. Where has the discipline gone? Where has the respect gone?

Then again, at least he was enjoying the tease. But with that said, there were peeps that brought their motorbikes along for a topless car wash. Need a dictionary dude?

I reckon they were hoping for a fully integrated wash, perhaps not!

With all the male testosterones moving rather quickly on the event, one of the participant thought he should bring his other lovely partner along.

For those of who own a BMW, do you notice (particularly at night) once you unlock the car, the interior lights lits up? Well, that was the starting point for the BMW light designers in asking what  new technologies would be able to offer in this respect.

The technology was first introduced in the BMW 7-series (E38) in 1994, which of course stands as a luxury to enhance the interior.

“We turned light into a real performance, indirect illumination of the interior giving the entire passenger compartment that unique flair of generosity and elegance”. Said Dr. Wolfgang Reitzle, E38 Board Member Development.

These light effects in the MINI and the BMW 5-Series GT has great emotional impact for the drivers and passengers. The interior lighting can in-fact improve the emotions of the driver and will also bring more energy to the driver especially under low light conditions.

The designers spend months just to select the best material for the interior. The objective of these improvements in all cases was and is to upgrade the interior in offering an emotional experience in space. So, the design of the cocoon for the driver covers a much wider range of design and features than the past. This of course give the cars a very distinctive style and flair, just by fiddling with the lightings.
